Let me tell you how my career in prospecting began. Like most people I joined a business with dollar signs in my eye’s thinking my company web site, my product and my comp plan would literally sell it self.
I knew so little about marketing I could barely spell it and generating leads was a concept so foreign to say I didn’t know where to begin would be a great overstatement. So I purchased leads, bad ones.
I rehearsed my company scripts and practiced the closing statements, I did three ways and follow-ups to people I knew in my gut would never join because that was what I was taught to do. “Just believe Ken,” my sponsor would say.
So I called and I called until I could barely pick up the phone anymore. The pain of rejection was something to avoid instead of overcome. I couldn’t figure out why people weren’t joining my business.
I couldn’t bear looking at my wife when I finished calling with no results. Looking back I can see the mistakes I’ve made with some of those calls. Some of those bad leads weren’t that bad, I was.
You see I didn’t take control of the calls, I didn’t allow the other person to show up for me. I didn’t encourage the other person to qualify my time instead of qualifying there’s.
Finally I met Dani Johnson, Mike Dillard, Michael Oliver and a few other people willing to teach me in great detail what I’m about to share with you.
I stopped begging and selling the comp plan. I started forcing others to sell me on them instead of the other way around.
