How to Avoid the Newbie’s Tell and Get the Most from Your MLM Advertising Dollar

Lets see you’ve been out there writing articles and creating your blog and your just so excited.  The world is going to begin beating down your door, right?

It’s just a mater of days now.  Your articles are optimized to rank high in the search engine. You are pinging your blog every day Feed burner and Analytics shows the traffic increasing.

I’m sorry, but were gonna go off track for a moment.  Hang with me because it’s a necessary detour.

Personally, I don’t watch very many movies these days with very rare exception.  If you haven’t seen “Casino Royal” the latest James Bond movie you should watch it.  Not just entertaining but if you know what to look for you can learn a lot, 007 times trough and I still pick up something new each time.

Anyway there is a scene in the movie when James and his gang are talking about the “Tell” of a specific gambler at the table.  Two great things about this scene are the set up and the clean up.

The set up is introducing a concept that a very small population understand, the “Tell”.  Unless you gamble or have become one of the more recent fans of casino gambling shows it’s only a remote possibility you understand what is a “tell”

In comes the clean up.  Knowing many people could get lost or mentally hung up at this point what is the director to do.  Well of course James beautiful sidekick asks the question the viewer can’t “What’s a tell?“

“It is the sign another gambler subconsciously reveals when he is bluffing.  A subtle tick that only a trained eye can catch with experience gamblers and an obvious occurrence with novice gamblers.

So what’s your tell?

Is it subtle or so blatant you drive your hard earned traffic out the door.

This is going to really dishearten a few of you so please don’t shoot the messenger.  Simply begin looking around and you will see what I am about to tell you is true.

After all you worked hard to get your articles ready.  You cleverly crafted your title.  You loaded your first paragraph with keywords, you tested to prevent from being too keyword rich.  You have worked to hard to just throw it all away, right?

But here is the fallacy your upline left out.  More importantly this is the tell that shows the world what you are.

Your about me line.

Where are you sending your reader?

Please “tell” me your not an armature and sending people to your opportunity site?  Please “tell” me your not at novice and sending people to your Powerful Funded Proposal?

Please “tell” me your not intermediate and sending people to a Duplicateable System with your leader all over the front of it..

I don’t care if your leader makes millions, has written the best tell all book or teaches you everything he knows.  If I find the page you are promoting can I google the name of the person your promoting?  If I can will I be able to sign up under them?  If they are promoting as well then YOU my friend are using your money to fill your leaders pipeline.

There are systems that work, but you must be sure you aren’t competing along side your leader and sending people to your custom made opportunity page?

Let me ask you one question.  Who makes more money the salesman pushing or the leader who patiently waits for people to find him?

I know you may not understand this because it’is advanced, but if you listen to that voice I breathed in to you something has been stirred.

Open your eyes and look around you and the obvious will begin to show up.

Web 2.0 aTraction – The Rubber meets the Road

Let’s get down and dirty and why I love this industry

Now before you get started I am going to share something with you that is contrary to what a lot of the web 2.0 crowd is preaching.  You see a lot of people are talking about how they generate TON”S of traffic for free everyday.

Some Do and Some Don’t

What you need to understand is Web 2.0 in particular YouTube and Social sites like MySpace and Facebook are great tools to accomplish lead generation.  But if you just throw a page up hoping leads will flood your inbox you may be missing the point.

You see there is an axiom in marketing that it takes 5 to 7  impressions for someone to make a buying decision.  This may or may not be true I leave that one up to you.  However smart marketers understand that the more people bounce from video to blog to MySpace have a better chance of attracting quality people to their site.  Because each bounce is a new impression your prospect makes.

Consider each jumping point a little seed you have planted.  Each little bounce educes more curiosity, excitement and over all satisfaction.

You’ve heard of a marketing funnel right?

Well simply put a marketing funnel is just a doorway to more information.  People on the internet are starved for information.  Even more, people in network marketing or online business are crying for help.

It’s really sad to see, but most people get in start building links and what nots to replicated website only to quit never learning how this stuff really works.

Even sadder most people are never told how many people you have to get in front of your website before someone will actually make a purchase.

Some perspective I learned from Dan Kennedy.  In direct mail you are hitting a home run if your response rate is 1 out of 1,000.  On the internet your should expect and demand no less than 10% conversion.

Now understand a conversion is not necessarily a sale.  It’s an action or commitment from your viewer to get more information.  From here numbers vary a great deal but with practice you should expect 1 to 5% make a purchase.

A little painless math

1000 visitors at 10% conversion equals 100 leads.  If you only hit the 1% mark you will make one sale.

Because it is important to get numerous impressions to help facilitate a sale Web 2.0 tactics dramatically increase the time your prospective buyers will make that all important purchase.

This is why Web 2.0 is so important.  It’s not about getting free leads or traffic as much as it’s about creating more impressions quickly so your chance for converting lurkers to fans puts the odds in your favor

Let me start by telling you one of my greatest frustrations with PPC.  People in the beginning always seemed to have some special secret they were so unwilling to share.  How they learned, how they made it work,  how they found key words.  Everything was for sale and my pocket was getting very light.

Now I am assuming you understand some of the basics so all I’m going to share at the lowest level of understanding is this.  Anytime you see “Sponsored by Google” or “Sponsored ad” it is probably a Pay Per Click advertisement.  Simply put someone paid to have their little ad placed on the page your viewing and they have to pay if you click on their ad.

My Story in brief… “I don’t sell!”

MLM Cold Calling Made Easy,…Huh?

Cold Calling MLM Opportunity Leads Sucks Ass…

First of all there ain’t nothin easy about cold calling.  I don’t care what the books, your upline or Glenda the Good Witch of the North has to say.  Cold calling sucks…

Sound familiar.  What if I told you there is a way, a method, you might even say a militant tactic for effectively cold calling leads.  You’d be a little skeptical right?

I would and you should too.

But keep in mind while everyone else out there pushes Internet, Internet, Internet you could put something in the mail that sits on someone’s desk.  There you are while the other marketers are lost in a sea of bookmarks, hyperlinks and cyberspace.

This is trifecta marketing or as my Buddy Ray calls it the Land, Sea and Air attack.

Reverse Marketing, Are You a Predator?

Don’t call me i’ll call you RIGHT?  Here’s the little do’s and don’ts that you need to know if you want to learn how to effectively market to the masses.  Oops did I say masses?  I meant to say the overstocked feeding tanks full of desperate, dying, crying and begging….

Sound familiar?  Well depending on how long you’ve been in the game you may not have heard this sales pitch.  It’s the typical prelude to the reverse marketing script.

Don’t know what reverse marketing is?

In short it is when one network marketer contacts another and says something like “Hey Ken, I found your web site on the net and you sound like a pretty sharp guy.  We are making butt loads of cash over here and you should check us out”

Now, I don’t have a problem with this type of marketing.  It’s fun and can be very effective.  Funny part is most of these guys fall over when they find this web page you’ll understand in a moment.

Truth be told reverse marketing when done well can be very effective especially for people on a budget not to mention a great learning tool for developing relationships.

You’ve heard the phrase “This is a relationship business”.  Well it is and well… it is.

Develop the wrong kind of relationship or the right kind this is a relationship business all the same.

So lets cover a few negative or predator style tactics that will get you started on the wrong foot.

  • Cost someone else money by clicking their PPC ad.  Man I can’t tell you how much this one burns me up.  Just imagine this.  One day I received 10 leads from one guy.  He apparently was paying people to click my ad and insert his contact information on the form so I would call him.  Charging an amazing $3,500 he even had that audacity to say “…see Ken it works”.  I still can’t figure out what worked other than this guy cost me $3.50 in click charges and 15 minutes of my time calling him back 3 times before I realized it was the same damn number.  Yup I’m still a little peeved with that one.  Now if he had been smart…Humm hang on were gonna get there.
  • SCREAM AND YELL LIKE THAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE HEAR YOU OR NOTICE YOU THAT MUCH MORE.  IT”S KIND OF LIKE THE ADS THAT MAKE THE GREATEST MOST OUTLANDISH CLAIMS LIKE  $100K NEXT WEEK. Your font says a good deal about you to your reader.  When reverse marketing it doesn’t help to yell with CAPS to try and get someone’s attention.
  • BIG tip that’s kinda of small. People are scared out there and if you try and intimidate them with your GREATNESS you only drive them away..

So here is what makes a difference and remember if you want to pursuer reverse marketing the ethical and lucrative way this will take you much further.

  • Cost someone else money by clicking their PPC ad.  Just don’t do it.  If you ever watch Earl on NBC then you understand what goes around comes around.  You don’t want someone costing you money just to pitch you on there product.  It’s kind of like selling Domino’s pizza outside a Pizza Hut.  It’s bad business and not a good way to develop relationships.  NOW here’s what you do.  Sent a piece offering right from the start.  An email starting out something like this.  Hey Fred,  I found your site searching Google and it looks really nice.  For starters I want  you to understand I would never cost a fellow marketer unnecessary PPC charges.  I just typed in your url to see what your up to.  If you would be interested in learning how to generate leads 100% FREE …
  • SCREAM AND YELL Do we really have to explain this one?  If your hitting the free classifieds, Search Engines, Ezines or forums yelling and carrying on you are attracting the wrong kind of attention.  Here is something unique. Offer a free training right from the start.  NOW that’s different.  It will stand out in the crowd of megaphone toting idiots..
  • People are Scared. Let me tell you the greatest secret you will ever realize in this business.  Seriously I saved this one till the end to make sure all the lookie lou’s miss it.  People are desperate for help.  If you can help someone actually make a dollar, you will have a friend.  Funny how it works, but it’s true.  People need leadership and they need it yesterday.  Help them learn to generate traffic for free and they’ll be hooked.

When it comes to reverse marketing there are a ton of tricks we could go into, but let me just give you two.

1. Create a branded site.  If you can’t tell people something easy like hey just Google me then you’re missing out.  Don’t believe me just Google Ken Abraham or Serious Entrepreneurs Only or a host of other key phrases.  There I’ll be just waiting.  You can’t do this with a duplicateable site so branding is a critical long term goal.

2. When it comes to duplication and reverse marketing there is only one system beginners should use.  The reality it isn’t completely a reverse marketing system as much as a gateway system.  Known by its more technical name its a Funded Proposal.

A Case for the 97%

Let’s talk about the 97% Failure trend.

If you have looked at any of the home business opportunities out there lately then you are aware of the growing popularity and honest projections of the 97% that fail in this industry.  You will hear that it is due to lack of support, poor competitor products, the perfect lead capture page, and so many other reasons we won’t waste your time any further.

Compounding this “Startling” fact you see people with piles of cash, Ferrari’s and get rich quick stories.  If you pay attention no direct promises are made, but they sure are implied.   Unless you have been burned before and are completely jaded against the whole concept of a work at home opportunity, these images, videos and brilliant ad copy will make you swoon.  Some may even say, “…this is the one to fix my problems”.  “No phone calls, are you kidding”.  “ I can use your story and build my business”.

You’ve seen it all and there will be more to come in the future I am waiting with baited breath, how bout you.

So how is it possible these people have such instant success?

Well for starters they are part of the 3% that realized this business takes work and didn’t buy into the myth this business would be easy.  Think about it for a moment.  If you have never run a business, made a prospecting call, written an advertisement, build a web page or any of the other things you must do in this industry, is it realistic to believe you will make piles of cash sitting on you ass next month.

Oh wait you probably are saying…”I don’t believe in realistic…” .  Keep telling yourself that one chief and give me a call when your credit card runs out of gas.

You have to wake up and get real.  Yeah! I know I’ve heard the line also “What’s realistic, I don’t believe in realistic.  Realistic is for small thinkers”  whatever.  If you are serious about building a BUSINESS working from home you better plan on doing some work.  That is what the 3% do.

Here is the final undisclosed point to keep in mind, but first this is only for people  who have never been in any kind of sales, entrepreneurship, or leadership roles.  These positions foster a certain value with will limit your learning curve.  For those out there with no business skills or those that have only earned a paycheck please listen.

No one in this industry gets rich quick, PERIOD.  I don’t care if you hear stories about making $100,000 in my third month.  There is always an underlining story about the 2 or 3 years preceding that miraculous 3rd month.

The point I hope to make with you today is this business while I have painted a bleak picture can be very easy.  You can be one of the 3% who make it.  You can be one of the ones who makes a realistic plan for themselves and succeeds.  With a little time and effort you can make a fortune in this business.

Be smart, do your homework, make a plan for yourself and most of all prepare to build wealth.
